Two Rails hackers and a hen (!) have just joined Applicake!

Yes, that's right ;-) Our team has just grown! We have found the right people (pictures and
details to come)...but we are still looking in case you are interested in joining us!

And the cutest-hen-on-Earth was made by Sabina (graphic designer from Polove). Take a look:

Our new logo & website... coming soon!

Yes, it's the highest time to do something about our website. Yes, the blog alone won't make us look like a super-cool company.

We've known it for a while now it just took us some time to ask Manto for a sparkling new site.
So.. what took us so long?!! We were too busy with Client-work, that's our excuse - in fact there is a very relevant Polish saying "shoemaker walks bare foot".

It's pretty old and maybe that's why it is not "web developer has no website" but I am sure you all get the point ;-)
If you are (as) anxious (as we are) to see the new website online, check out our Flickr stream in the meanwhile! Oh, and we will stay faithful to the muffin, it just needed face lifting!

The Basic Stuff. Text Editing.

Hi my name is Paul, I'm a one of the developers at applicake. I'm with applicake
for more than 2 years now and I am pretty happy with that :).

Some time ago we had an inside meeting, where this 'sharing experience'
idea came out. We all belive that it's great push. And there are no "buts" and "ifs".
Sharing is great!

Time to begin. I am going to introduce You to text editing and how myself and most
guys at applicake handle it.

Text editing is one of the most basic things in our lives (except from eating and
drinking and everything else from the Maslov's pyramid of needs), especially in
programmer lives. I can't imagine programming without it. Could You?

There are thousand of text editors out there, but I'm not going to focus on which
one is the best, that is relative and actually I don't wont to go into
the "holly battle" beetwen vim and emacs. A text editor is good when it
meets Your needs and when You are curious enough to explore it.

For me The Text Editor is VIM. Why?
Because it's super fast, it's installed by default in all the
unix like systems and it's goes with screen - this setup is really
powerful. The Beast and the Beauty :>.

The Features, bells and whistles.
The most basic thing about VIM that it has modes. Normal, insert, visual,
command line are most common and they are extensively used in everyday's work.

I believe there is one extremely important skill that y...

We're (about to be) famous !!!

Our stats showed entrances from the OfficeSnapshots website . We clicked to see what was going on... and we noticed a brand new shiny post about...us! Putting Photos on Flickr pays off!

"There are thousands upon thousands of software development companies around the world, so it’s important to distinguish yourself. One pretty awesome way to do that is to name your company Applicake. Then, instead of making regular software, you make delicious software. And put a muffin on your logo! I’m so hungry now.

The office is located in Krakow, Poland, which happens to be the black bean bag capital of Europe (...)"

Applicake and SocialThinkers

It will be a dramatic one.

And all that because of our brand new Partnership with SocialThinkers , a German company located in Duesseldorf. Jan and Andre paid us a visit in Krakow mid July, now it was our time to see their fantastic loft!

Now the story - Bart and Paul woke up @ 3 am to get to the airport in Katowice just in time for their 6am flight. 7 am - still there, plane delayed. 8am - further delay... and so it went till 12am. The decision - no other option but to go there by car. And off they went! A 9 hours ride, up to 210 km/h on the clock and a warm welcome by 'Socials'. Oh, and some cele-Barting (celebrating Bart's b-day).

And, last but not least, some serious planning on the next day. Not to mention the ride back ;-) Well done.

Forgot to mention - the flight was canceled 5 hours later.

Finally. No, seriously. Finally! The teaser is already online, we're collecting e-mails, communicating through our blog... and receive a lot of positive feedback. I forgot to mention, it's www.tripy.pl, our first 100% own product. And it's almost ready.

Through managing the entire process we learned about some aspects of IT product development we never even realized were there ;-) So far, it has been an exciting adventure and a fantastic experience. We're thrilled to see what comes next.
